Skins: An Embarrassing Admission

Dylan Heath in British, High School, Skin, TV

I've been watching Skins. It's hard to admit to watching an angsty British teen serial but there it is. For anyone who hasn't seen it, Skins is set in some sort of alternate dimension where everything you wish you could do in high school actually happens.

It's melodramatic, it's pointless, it's fluff; but something keeps bringing me back. Something keeps me watching. Every once in a while, right when my attention is waining they write something truly amazing. Like when one character reveals to another the death of a parent there is a subtlety. When one character finds out another is cheating there is a humor. When one character tries to sleep with another there is a hint of sadness.

I am not they type of pompous asshole to tout the superiority of British shows. Far from it actually. And this particular show is just as superfluous as any American high school drama. But it's certainly nice to see something more than the usual dull TV show.
